The Organic Home

In this blog I'm going to share with you, how by making small adjustments to your homes and lifestyle you could reduce your carbon footprint and improve the environment we live in.

These are based on my own experience and the various endeavours we have implemented to.

1, Shopping Habits: Taking note of packaging, to reduce plastic waste, opting for more sustainable alternatives.  Recently, I realised that by opting for a refillable glass bottle for washing up liquid.  I could prevent all those unrecycable bottles going to landfill.

2, Food Freshness: I replaced the use of clingfilm to bees wax wrappings. And moved away from plastic containers to more sustainable alternatives like Bamboo containers.

3, Checking credentials: Knowledge is power and when it comes to high ticket purchases, I make a concerted effort to research the business, manufacture or suppliers to buy fair trade where possible or at least understand more about its origins.

4, Savy Purchases: When buying new home appliances like washing machines consider the water usage.  It may mean paying more upfront, but it's energy efficient will pay back dividends in the long run.

5, Personal Awareness: This is more about personal habits when it comes to how you live in your home. Choosing lighting with energy saving solutions or just turning off lights when not inhabiting a room or installing timers & sensors to reduce your usage.  There are lots of big wins that can be achieved by changing just some of our daily tasks.

6, Think reuse, recycle or repurpose: If you're about to embark on a home makeover and are looking to replace homeware, ask yourself what your going to do with your old items? Could they be reused & upcycled? Could some else benefit from it or could it be repurposed into a different use?

I hope this gives you food for thought about how you can be more environmental in your home. It may sound like we are some kind of eco warrior, which is not strictly true, however we can all play our part in making for a better environment.

Clever interior designers will be asking you these types of questions when you have an initial consultation before your project commences. We are Happy to help. 💚💛
