Interior Design Trends 2026
Trends come & go in interior design and 2026, is no different. So, here is my views on opulent trends to look out for that I believe will shape our prestigious homes.
I didn't get along to Maison &Objet 2026, in Paris in January. This is one of the biggest and must attend interior design events in the calendar and while they have written their insights from Lindsay Blair, I'm not entirely convinced of her full predictions.
Firstly, earthy tones which is a spectrum of warm neutrals; off white, creams, caramel, mocha, copper and chocolate. Do we really want to return to the Urgh days of Magnolia?Read more about this on our Facebook post on Interior design styles: Biophillic.
Adding richness & opulent colours ooze luxury and lustre. In my opinion it makes a statement & while it may seem psychologically, that darker colours are cold, it can have the opposite effect; feelings of cosiness and grandeur producing interior design that adds splendour to your home.
Wood is predicted to be having a resurgence in 2026, and I'd completely agree; kitchen designs for example are combining paint finishes along with the natural beauty of Oak. My husband is a Cabinet maker that works for a local Midlands company that designs & supplies Bespoke kitchens and furniture & they have seen this shift, along with clever storage solutions and screening. Maybe that's what Lindsay is referring to in her predictions because wood brings warmth and elegance.
The additional bonus of wood furnishings is that it is well researched that by using wood in your home can help to improve your Wellbeing by reducing physiological and psychological stress, a phenomenon linked to the human innate infinity for nature, known as Biophillia. Improved Cognitive Function and Productivity and reduction in mental fatigue.
The one element of Design I do agree on is (& it plays to my the strengths and happy place) it elevates the every day; the use of luxurious materials and fabrics for every day practicality ie leather homeware. The is a stunning shop in Ludlow run by Matt Fothergill & team that specialises in leather goods and repairs. The tactile nature of these materials and products add warmth. Tablescapes with leather accessories mixed with flora & fauna, are set to continue to excite & relax your dinner guests in equal measures.
Coverlets and Throws are a established staple in stylish homes and they are set to be a continued addition in bedrooms, drawing rooms and in garden rooms and garden furniture. The difference MJ believes is that they will be in more luxurious fabrics and textiles, giving elevation to your focal ID features: ie Sofas, blanket baskets or Bedroom chairs. Fabrics such as Cashmere, merino wool, velvet and yes; linen will bring understated elegance. Especially in your homes, gardens or orangery.
