Future Homes 2036
In this week's Country Interior design by MJ blog we explore homes of the future 2036
MJ, embraces classic, victoriana and histrionic interior design. You can often find her visiting Historic Houses and National Trust properties when not designing interiors for her clients. That and with a love for sustainability and Antiques, this blog takes her out of her comfort zone.
If you asked her what her favourite movie is, you may be surprised to learn that as well as her love of period dramas, her actual favourite film is; Passengers starring Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt. A sci-fi, based on a couple who live on the spaceship Avalon, moving through time & place to another planet. In terms of interior design on the Avalon there is not much to inspire there, and it is more about practicality. That said they take it upon themselves to plant a tree right in the Middle of the spaceships concourse. Shows the power of nature and how important it is to our Wellness.
While the interior design of the film Passengers are decades away, we thought it would be a great idea to explore homes in the not to distant future:10 years time. In recent years, technological advancements and how we live in our homes has changed immensely.
So what does the home of 2036, look like?
These are the elements that people will consider in terms of their homes & in terms of interior design.
1,SMART HOMES
A move away from App based gadgets to a more integrated home system that taps into AI technologies and machine learning; offering heightened security, sustainability, and wellness monitoring. What does this look like in real terms. It will monitor home usage and routines and adapt accordingly, ie use of facial recognition for home security, alter heat settings, restock & order groceries automatically, change lighting based on time of day and mood. Tracking health statistics; nutrition monitoring and heart rates and sleep monitoring.
2,LIGHTING
Artificial lighting will automatically adjust throughout the day to match natural light cycles, improving sleep and productivity.
3,HOW SUSTAINABILITY WILL AFFECT OUR HOMES
End to fossil fuelled heating systems like gas boilers and replaced with air source & ground sourced heat pumps.
Insulated homes with superior insulation & triple glazed windows with aims to achieve passive homes standards. Solar panels and battery storage solutions within the majority of homes.
Electrical Vehicles Charging insulation to support transition to EV's ownership
4,Bio-mass materials within the home, reducing hard to recycle materials with biodegradable materials like; Mycelium (fungal roots), algae, and other organic materials.
5, 50/50 rule, with interior designers sourcing 50% vintage & antique items or upcycling preloved items with 50%, new sustainable items. This will pass responsibility onto homeware manufacturers to make products that are sustainable and recyclable.
6, Support Local; This will encourage people to source products from local artisans and reduce the carbon footprint. There is a balance here in terms of online shopping.
Greater responsibility will sit with interior designers & Architects to support the transition to being more sustainable with their purchasing power and design plans.
